1. What do I need to meet my continuing education requirements for real estate license renewal?
After June 30, 2009, the Real Estate Commission is changing the staggered renewal periods for licensees to even-year renewal cycles with the transition beginning in 2010 - 2012. For real estate licensees who are currently on the two-year renewal cycle, 2008 – 2010, nothing has been changed and they are expected to complete eight-hours of continuing education prior to June 30, 2010.
For real estate licensees who renew on June 30, 2009, these licensees will be issued a one-year license with an expiration date of June 30, 2010. This annual license was issued to bring licensees to an even-year renewal cycle.
Licensees on this one-year renewal cycle will be required to complete four (4) hours of continuing education prior to June 30, 2010. The four hours of required continuing education may consist of any Commission-approved continuing education course, whether core or elective.
The goal of this transition is to have all licensees on an even-year renewal cycle which will bring uniformity to the renewal and continuing education process.

2. How can I tell a core class from an elective?

It is available both in the classroom and online. All other courses approved for continuing education credit are considered electives.
3. Can I complete my continuing education online?
Yes, continuing education for real estate licensees in South Carolina can be completed either online or in the classroom when offered by an approved provider. Once LLR has reviewed the course submitted for continuing education approval, a course number will be assigned which will appear with the course title on any advertising materials. If you’re not sure if a course has been approved, look for this number or ask the provider directly.
4. How do I get a certificate for the classes I complete online?
Once the course is completed, the instructor will provide you with a course evaluation form. When this evaluation form is completed and returned to the provider, you will receive an electronic course completion certificate. Please keep this certificate for your records should you be audited by LLR.
